People traveling in or out of Liberal on U.S. Hwy 54 late Wednesday morning may have experienced a slight delay as Kansas Highway Patrol and Seward County Sheriff’s staff members worked to clean up the scene of an accident.

“What happened was a Ford F550 went left of center and struck the tire of a Kenworth semi truck, and then the Kenworth came off and struck a Dodge Ram,” KHP Technical Trooper Michael Racy said. “There were technically three vehicles involved because the Dodge Ram was struck, but I’m not sure if that’s because it ran over some of the debris or was actually hit, though it did have some damage to it.”

While there was damage done, there were no injuries reported as a result of the incident, Racy said, and the highway was not shut down while cleanup was taking place, with the last trooper leaving the scene at around 1 p.m.

“In the end, everyone was lucky it was more of a minor incident and not more severe like it could have been,” Racy said.
