Kelly Ramirez was unstoppable Monday in a crosstown clash between the Lady Warriors and the Lady Apaches. Ramirez scored 19 points to lead the Lady Warriors to a 31-6 win over South.
Ramirez accounted for all of the West’s offense in the first quarter, scoring nine points while the Lady Apaches scored one basket by Perla Romero.
The scoring slowed down in the second quarter. West put in one bucket by Kattie Silva and a free throw Carley Shelton. South had a chance to score free throws, but Paige Young missed both attempts, and the Lady Warriors had a 12-2 lead at half.
West coach Pat Knott made some halftime adjustments, and the Lady Warriors began to score more frequently in the second half.
Ramirez scored six more points in the third quarter including two from the free throw line. Star Bayer added a bucket for the Lady Warriors, and Megan Besecker made a basket and a free throw. South had trouble moving the ball against the quick-handed Lady Warriors who forced the Lady Apaches to commit turnovers. South only scored two free throws by Young, and West had a 23-4 lead after the third quarter.
Besecker added two more baskets for the Lady Warriors and Ramirez also scored two more baskets while Young scored south’s only two points in the final quarter for the 31-6 final.
Ramirez led all scorers with 19, Besecker had seven, Silva scored two, Bayer scored two, and Shelton added a point for the Lady Warriors.
Young led the Lady Apaches with four points, and Romero had two.
