Leo Willis “Short” McDaniel, 81, died Sunday, Aug. 23, 2009, at Medicalodges in Goddard.

He was born Dec. 29, 1927, the son of William E. and Ernestine (Shepherd) McDaniel in Woodward, Okla.

He married Arlene June Carlson June 15, 1947, in Reno, Nev. She died Dec. 5, 2003.

He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He had been employed with Halliburton Services for 31 years as a field supervisor from 1955 to retirement in 1986.

He was a member of the First Church of the Nazarene in Liberal.

Survivors include two sons, Leo Wayne McDaniel and wife, Shirley, Yukon, Okla., and Danny Edward McDaniel, Meade; two daughters, Nancy Taylor and husband, Jerry,  Wichita, and Shirley Milbourn and husband, Jerry, Sidney, Ohio; two brothers, Delbert McDaniel, Amarillo, Texas, and Dale McDaniel, Woodward, Okla.; two sisters, Sue Elston, Edmond, Okla., and Billie Loghry, Guymon, Okla.; 10 grandchildren, Ginger Knudsen and husband, Jason, Wichita, Jared McDaniel and wife, Kim, Derby,   Pete Taylor and wife, Kelly, J. D. Taylor and Andrea Taylor, all of Wichita, Jason Milbourn, Sarah Smith and husband, Chuck, and Jarret Milbourn all of Sidney, Ohio, Cara McDaniel, Laxahatchee, Fla., and Amber Reid and husband, Calvin,  Meade; and 11 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Alvin and Donnie McDaniel, and one great-granddaughter.

o Graveside service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Prairie View Cemetery in Woodward, Okla., with the Rev. Larry Moff presiding.

Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Kitch-Brenneman Funeral Home of Liberal.

Memorials are suggested to Vandament Avenue Baptist Church Building Fund in care of Kitch-Brenneman Funeral Home, 1212 W. Second, Liberal, KS 67901.
