In Loving Memory
Liberal – Lucille Schoonover was born July 27, 1914 to GG & Sallie Cousins Leigon at Carrollton, TX, the middle child of five brothers and sisters. They early on moved near Vaughn, MN in a covered wagon. Later they settled in Tucumcari, NM.
She married M M “Mike” Schoonover in Tucumcari, NM May 12, 1944. They moved to their farm at Baker, OK in 1950 and Liberal, in 1963. They farmed and ranched and traveled extensively. They always had beautiful yards and shared their flowers generously. Education was always important to them and they maintained scholarships at Friends University where four generations of their family received degrees and at Seward County Community College.
She was a member of the Tyrone Eastern Star where she was Past Matron, Book Club #2, General Federation of Womens Club, Liberal Garden Club, and the First United Methodist Church where she served as President of United Methodist Women, and also a member of the Circle 3 and 20th Century Sunday School Class.
She was preceded in death by her parents Mr. & Mrs. G G Leigon her husband Mike Schoonover who died August 17, 2000, a sister Lillian Redman of Tucumcari, NM, and a brother Bill Leigon of Truth or Consequences, NM. She is survived by two brothers, Ralph Leigon and wife Georgia of Las Vegas, NV and Barney Leigon of Kalispell, MT, Also survived by a daughter Patricia Shockley and husband John of Liberal, KS, two grandchildren Sheryl Bohannan and husband Tim of Liberal, KS, Michael Mark Shockley and wife June of Wichita, KS; four great grandchildren Chris Hibbert of Houston, TX, Candice Hibbert of Valley Center, KS, Ken and Allen Shockley of Wichita, KS and a great great granddaughter Mariah Hibbert of Valley Center, KS.
We celebrate her life as we remember her joy and faithfulness in the Lord and a life well lived. Prayers for her family and loved ones were always on her lips and often accompanied with wise words of wisdom.
The family would like to express their deep appreciation to Dr. Sharon Mitchell, Dr. Terry Romans, Alberta Carr, Allegra Adams, Joan Smith, Eartha Mason, Joyce Amerin, Everleen Livingston and Joann Johnson. Their loving care will always be remembered.
o Funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday at Kitch-Brenneman Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend David Randall presiding. Burial will be in Restlawn Cemetery.
Visitation time will be Tuesday 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. with the family present to receive friends from 6:30 to 8 pm at the funeral home.
