ULYSSES – Ross Valdez, 92, died Monday, April 20, 2009, at Bob Wilson Memorial Hospital in Ulysses.
He was born Nov. 4, 1916, to Celedon and Lucinda (Trujillo) Valdez in Monte Vista, Colo.
He married Benny Garcia Oct. 10, 1944, in Trinidad, Colo. She survives.
He was a jockey in Nebraska, St. Louis, Arizona and Colorado and a ranch hand until he retired.
He enjoyed spending time with his family and his many cats.
Other survivors include two sons, Ross “Sonny” Valdez and wife, Jeanne, Dallas, and Leonard Valdez and wife, Jeanie, Ulysses; three daughters, Nancy Torres and husband, Ben, Ulysses, Phyllis Torres, Trinidad, Theresa Bedoya and husband, Gene, Yuma, Ariz., and Jennifer Briggs and husband, Danny, Ulysses; one brother, Pat Valdez, Denver; 15 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one son, Charles Valdez, one brother, Alex, three sisters, Laura, Emily, and Aggie, and one son-in-law, Henry Torres.
o Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Garnand Funeral Home Chapel in Ulysses with Pastor Gary Gregory presiding.
Burial will follow at the Ulysses Cemetery.
Friends may call from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday at Garnand Funeral Home in Ulysses.
