MARVIN R. SCHWERTFEGER
SATANTA – Marvin Ray Schwertfeger, 85, died Dec. 12, 2008, in Peoria, Ariz., after a short illness.
He was born to August John and Ruth Cordelia McPheeters Schwertfeger.
He married Carolyn Jane Winsted July 26, 1949, in Garden City. She survives.
He attended schools in Satanta and Dodge City and graduated from Dodge City High School in 1942. He attended Dodge City Junior College for one year. He attended Fort Hays State University, where he was a member of Sigma Tau Gamma fraternity.
He was a farmer and rancher in Haskell and Grant counties. He enlisted in the Army in 1943, serving as a World War II veteran in Iwo Jima. He also worked at Panhandle Eastern Pipeline Company for 18 years.
He served on the Satanta Cooperative Board from 1977-1987, a member of American Legion Post in Satanta, the United Methodist Church in Satanta and an associate member of the Lakeview United Methodist Church in Sun City, Ariz.
He enjoyed golfing, hunting, traveling and spending time with his family.
o Memorial services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the United Methodist Church in Satanta with the Rev. Kelvin Heitmann presiding.
Military graveside services will be at the Dudley Township Cemetery in Satanta.
