After a long drive to Yankton, S.D., the Cimarron River Rattlers opened the Midwest Regional Tournament with a resounding 18-1 win over Centennial, Colo.
The Rattlers will play host Yankton today in pool play before facing the Missouri state champions to round out pool play.
The Rattlers need to finish in the top three of the five-team pool to advance to the final six.
Fort Scott, the other team to qualify from Kansas, is in the opposite pool, so there is a chance that both teams can meet for an all-Kansas final.
Fort Scott and Cimarron Rier were supposed to meet in the state championship game Monday but rain canceled the event. Both teams were already invited to the nine-team Midwest Regional, so a co-championship was shared between the two.
The Rattlers also won the state Sportsmanship Award.
