David Lynn Mathis, 45, died Tuesday, March 3, 2009, at St. Luke’s Episcopal Hospital in Houston.

He was born Sept. 11, 1963, to Robert M. and Sharon Lambert Mathis in Liberal. 

He married Rocheal Childress Aug. 6, 1988, in Hooker, Okla. She survives.

He graduated from Hilldale High School in Muskogee, Okla., with the Class of 1982. He continued his education at Oklahoma Panhandle State University in Goodwell, Okla., and Northeastern University in Tahlequah, Okla. 

He worked for Don Ukens. In 1984, he began work for Dorchester-Hugoton, working there until his death. 

He was member of the Church of the Nazarene and former member of First Baptist Church both of Hooker.

He had served as a member of the Hooker Emergency Medical Service since 1989 and was awarded the Hooker EMS Member of the Year in 2008. In 2009, he became a part of the Baker Fire Department. 

He enjoyed hunting, fishing,  golfing and camping at Fun Valley in South Fork, Colo., each summer. 

Other survivors include  one son, Ryan Mathis and fiancee, Carrie, Hooker; one daughter, Shayla Mathis of the home; one niece, Amber Graham of the home; his father, Bob, and wife, Anne Mathis, Bella Vista, Ark.; one brother, Lyle and wife, Susan Mathis, Sallisaw, Okla.; his grandmothers, Letha Mathis and Juanita Lambert, both of Hooker; his parents-in-law, Rod and Raeleen Childress, Hooker; and many family and friends and his hunting dogs, Bubba and Junior.

He was preceded in death by his mother; one sister, Debbie Graham; his grandparents, E.A. and Lorene Mathis and Clyde and Laura Lambert.

o Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the First Baptist Church in Hooker. 

Burial will be at the Hooker Cemetery.

Memorials are suggested to the Hooker Ambulance Association and may be left at Roberts Brothers Funeral Home Inc., Box 745, Hooker, OK 73945.
