Fredrick L. “Fred” Adams, 74, died Tuesday, March 3, 2009, at his residence in Liberal.

He was born Sept. 2, 1934, to James Millard and Lucy Belle (Penix) Adams in Louisa, Ky . 

He married Betty Jean Lawrence Feb. 24, 1954, in Aline, Okla. She survives.

He was owner/operator of Adams & Sons Construction Company.  

He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, especially watching them play ball, traveling, fishing and gardening.  

He is also survived by two sons, Darrel Adams and wife, Robyn, Dodge City, and Doyle Adams and companion, Linda Glenz, Hugoton; two daughters, Tammie Landess, Liberal, and Vickie Landess and husband, Randy, Laverne, Okla.; two sisters, Helen Chaffin of Kentucky, and Permelia “Toad” Rogers, Liberal; nine grandchildren, Chad Adams, Darci Dreiling, Justin Adams, Amanda Hallmark, Travis Adams, Dusty Landess, Austin Landess, Heston Landess and Hailey Landess; and four great-grandchildren, Grayson Dreiling, Kennadi Dreiling, Alan Hallmark and Madison Adams.

He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, Chester Adams, Bernard Adams and Paul Adams, and three sisters, Madge Simpson, Bernice Jennings and Hazel Olson.

o Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the South Church of God with Pastor Rusty Callahan presiding.  

Burial will follow at Liberal Cemetery.

Friends may call from 1 to 5 p.m. Thursday and 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday with the family present to receive friends 6:30 to 8 p.m. Friday at Kitch-Brenneman Funeral Home.

Memorials are suggested to Alzheimer’s Association in care of Kitch-Brenneman Funeral Home, 1212 W. Second, Liberal, KS  67901.
