Just three months ago, Kaela Krueger was crowned 2011 Miss Liberal. Barely two weeks ago, she graduated from Liberal High School. This week, Krueger is in Pratt – competing for the title of Miss Kansas.
Since receiving the title of Miss Liberal, Krueger said her schedule has been very full.
“It has been very busy because my first priority, after becoming Miss Liberal, was to fill out all of the required paperwork for Miss America which took a lot of time,” she said. “I probably spent more than 13 hours filling out paperwork.”
The Miss Kansas Pageant is under the auspices of the Miss America Organization, which Krueger would compete in if she were to win the Miss Kansas crown Saturday evening in Pratt.
“I have spent a lot of time with preparations,” she explained. “I have been practicing my talent, I have been having mock interviews that I have set up.
“There have been two Miss Kansas workshops where all the Miss Kansas contestants get together,” she added. “Former Miss Kansas winners come and speak to us and tell us what to prepare for throughout Miss Kansas week.”
Aside from all of the preparations she must make, Krueger also fulfills her duties as Miss Liberal – and an LHS graduate.
Miss Liberal Pageant Executive Director Lu Haynes has high hopes for Krueger’s future. She said Krueger’s determination will take her far, regardless of what career path she chooses.
“I don’t think there is anything that she couldn’t accomplish,” Haynes said. “She is such a hard worker, and that is so important.
“Another thing I have noticed is she is planning on going into some kind of nursing,” she continued. “We have been to a nursing home a couple of times, a respite care, and she absolutely connected with those people – she loved it there. That is her plan, but plans can change. All education is good.”
Krueger was presented with a personally decorated basket that will contain any cards, letters, etc. from those wishing her well. Anyone that would like to pass on a note of encouragement to Krueger may send cards to this address while she is in Pratt:
