The Tigers ended the Cal Ripken tournament the way they started it — with a win over the Royals.
The Tigers swept through four games on their way to the tournament title including a come-from-behind 7-3 victory over the Royals in the title game.
Kaiden Bigham pitched the title game,a nd after giving up three runs in the first inning, Bigham took charge and did not allow another run.
The Tigers had to battle form the fifth seed spot after finishing next to last in the regular season.
But th Tigers lost three games by one run and put the pieces together for a tournament run.
“”We had it all year,” coach Bud Bigham said. “We were hitting one through nine. That’s the key. I told the kids we were the best team all year, and we can show it in the tournament.”
Both teams made early mistakes in the title game, but the Tigers played solid defense the rest of the way while taking advantage of Royal miscues.
“We got a couple of lucky runs, but we gave them a couple of runs, too,” Bigham said. “They made a few more mistakes. That turned out to be the difference.”
