Despite improved play from the Rockies, the A’s were still able to earn a 13-3 run-rule win Monday to keep the race for first place close with the White Sox.
After the A’s jumped out to a 6-0 lead, the Rockies narrowed the gap to 6-2 in the top of the third inning.
But the A’s responded with three runs in the bottom of the inning to take a 9-2 lead.
The Rockies added a run in the top of the fourth to trim the lead to 9-3.
But the A’s were able to finish the game in the bottom of the fourth after Junior Rodriguez came to the plate with two runners on and ripped a triple down the third base line.
He later scored ona single to end the game 13-3.
The Rockies will look for their first win of the season Saturday against the league-leading White Sox at 3 p.m. The A’s are off until Monday when they face the Royals at 6 p.m.
