Two men and a teenager were injured Friday afternoon near Plains when two automobiles collided head-on.
A 2004 Cadillac Escalade driven by Charles D. Tomlinson, 55, of Lake Havasu City, Ariz., was headed westbound at 3:20 p.m. on U.S. Highway
54 1/10 of a mile west of Plains when an eastbound 1995 Mustang driven by 16-year-old Alberto Ramirez Jr. of Liberal tried to pass another vehicle and hit the Cadillac head-on, according to a report from the Kansas Highway Patrol.
The report noted Ramirez struck the Cadillac on the westbound shoulder and both vehicles came to rest in the north ditch.
Ramirez was transported to Southwest Medical Center in Liberal and later flown to St. Francis Hospital in Wichita.
Tomlinson was taken to Meade District Hospital for treatment, as was his passenger, Robert D. Gordon, 68, of Burlingame, Kan. Gordon was later transferred to Western Plains Hospital in Dodge City, according to the report.
All three were using seat restraints, the report noted.
