BEAVER, Okla. — The Beaver Lady Dusters got off to a fast start and were never really threatened in a 52-38 win over Laverne on Saturday in the Duster Dome. The win gives Beaver (21-2) the district championship and a first round date with Texhoma’s Red Devils in Thursday’s regional opener at Laverne.
“We struggled a little bit offensively,” Beaver head coach Casey Jones said. “The last time we played (Laverne) we got off to a good shooting start.”
The Lady Dusters led 12-4 early, but Laverne (12-11) cut it to 12-8 at the end of the first quarter. Laverne trailed by three (12-9) and two (15-13) before Anna McDonald hit a trey to make it 18-13 as Beaver would lead 23-18 at the half.
“The constant was defense,” Jones said. “We held them into the 30s but going into the game we tried to stop (Hartly) Carlisle and we didn’t want (K.D.) Zollinger to get a bunch of points. And we did that, but their other kids stepped up on us.”
Beaver went up by 10 at the end of the third after Laverne had cut it to tree a couple of times.
Catie Rife led Beaver with 21 points and Erin Becker 15 for Beaver.
