JOHNSON — Four players scored in double figures as the Southwestern Heights Lady Mustangs handled Johnson Stanton County 62-28, Tuesday night in the Hi Plains League tournament.
“We had some people step up,” SWH head coach Barry Mellen said. “Rebi Jacobs had 15 points, 3-for-3 from the 3-point line and really a defensive effort.”
Heidi Brown scored 15 points and 9 assists. Marissa Angell shot well from outside with two 3s and two 2s, Sheree Ryan took control inside and scored 10, as well. Tatianna Chandler came off the bench and scored nine.
“A lot of balanced scoring, that’s what I really preach,” Mellen said.
The focus of the Hi Plains League Tournament now shifts to Garden City Community College, where the Lady Mustangs will take on Elkhart at 6 p.m. Thursday in a “Mentor vs. Student” game. Elkhart coach Lori Wright (Wells) played for Mellen at one point.
“She’ll do a great job,” Mellen said. “They’re definitely a good shooting team, a very balanced attack. We’ll have our hands full.”
