The city clerk’s office announced Wednesday that Marlena Nobles has filed for a city commission seat in the next general election. Nobles is the fifth candidate to enter the race for three available seats. She joins incumbents Bob Carlile, Dave Harrison and Larry Koochel and John “Blacky” Blackmore who have all filed to run.
The positions currently held by Carlile, Harrison and Koochel will be vacant in April. Harrison and Koochel have served four-year terms, while Carlile will have served a two-year term.
At the April 5 general election, the top two successful candidates will receive four-year terms and the third successful candidate will receive a two-year term. If more than nine individuals file for the vacant city commission positions, a primary election will be conducted on Tuesday, March 1, to reduce the candidates to three per position.
Those interested in filing for city commission need to complete a Candidate’s Declaration of Intention form and pay the $45 filing fee with the City Clerk’s office by Jan. 25. The office is located at City Hall, 324 N. Kansas, and is open from 9 a.m. to noon and 1 to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday.
