READING – Ronald “Ronnie” Edward Howard, 63, died Wednesday, Dec. 1, 2010, at his home in Reading.

He was born Nov. 9, 1947, to Jesse Edward and Bonnie Jean Mynhler Howard in Shawnee, Okla.

He married Gendolyn Sue Hanson.

He then married Susie Duryee.

He attended school in Kismet and was in the last graduating class of 1965. He attended Fort Hays State University and graduated with a BS in zoology in 1969.

After graduation, he worked for Purina Feed Mills in Liberal. He had also worked for the Liberal Police Department as a dispatcher and an officer. He later worked for Iowa Beef Processing unloading beef and later as a refrigeration mechanic. In 1990, he went to work at Menu Foods as a boiler, refrigeration and air compressor leader. He then became a purchasing agent for the maintenance department, where he worked at the time of his death. He also founded Whispering Pine Nursery, which took care of the landscaping at grounds at Menu Pet Food.

He enjoyed hunting, fishing, the outdoors and gardening.

Survivors include one son, Jason B. Howard, Reading; two brothers, Jesse R. Howard, Neosho Rapids, and James C. Howard, Trinidad, Colo.; one sister, Donna J. Presley, Neosho Rapids; and two grandchildren, Rebecca J. Howard and John E. Howard, Burlington.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

o Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Kismet Cemetery.

Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Charter Funerals-Emporia Chapel.
