Liberal City Clerk Debbie Giskie has announced that the deadline for candidates to file for the three city commission seats that will become vacated is at noon Tuesday, Jan. 27, 2009. The positions are currently held by Joe Denoyer, Doug LaFreniere and Don Rash, and they will become vacant in April. Denoyer and LaFreniere will have served four-year terms, while Rash will have served a two-year term.
At the April 7, 2009, general election, the top two successful candidates will receive four-year terms, and the third successful candidate will serve a two-year term. If more than six individuals file for the vacant city commission positions, a primary election will be conducted Tuesday, March 3, 2009, to reduce the candidates to two per position.
Those interested in filing for city commission need to complete a Candidate’s Declaration of Intention form and pay the $45 filing fee with the city clerk’s office starting Monday, Jan. 5. The office is located at City Hall at 324 North Kansas Ave. and is open from 9 a.m.
until noon and 1 to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.
