The Liberal Redskin junior varsity may have set a record last night by recording three safeties against Garden City.

Unfortunately, it was not enough to earn a win. Liberal lost to Garden City 14-12.

The Redskins fell behind 7-0 but had the Buffaloes backed against their own end zone for a punt when the snap went by the Garden City punter and out of the end zone for a safety.

Liberal reached the red zone on their next possession but a fumble ended the drive.

Garden City went ahead 14-2 seconds before half, and midway through the third quarter the Redskins scored on a touchdown catch by Trenton Hammond to narrow the gap to 14-8.

The Redskins again entered the red zone in the fourth quarter, but an interception by Garden City at the 1 yard line again ended the threat.

Another punt snap sailed out of the end zone, and the Redskins scored two more, 14-10.

Liberal again marched down to the 1 yard line, but another fumble was recovered by Garden City. Liberal’s defense tackled the Buffalo runner in the end zone for a safety but could not score on the final possession.
