Cyber security involves protecting information by preventing, detecting and responding to attacks.

“You’ve heard the news stories about credit card numbers being stolen and email viruses spreading,” said Seward County Community College Business and Industry Director Norma Jean Dodge. “Maybe you’ve even been a victim yourself.”

Dodge said one of the best defenses is understanding the risks, knowing what some of the basic terms mean and what can be done to protect a person against them.

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) presentation encourages businesses and personnel to make cyber security and identity protection part of their regular routine in order to reduce their risk of cyber-attacks and identity theft.

SCCC is hosting a free seminar, “Cyber Security and Protecting Your Indentity – What to Know, What to Do,” with Chuck Clanahan of DHS from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Friday in Room No. SW229 C/D.
