TYRONE, Okla.— It was a historic night for the Tyrone Lady Bobcats who whipped the Fort Supply Lady Bulldogs 57-24 to claim the Area 1, District 2 Championship, their first in at least 20 years.
Jenna Bohannan led the way for the Lady Bobcats with 20 points, including 6 of the Tyrone’s first 8 points of the game.
“Jenna (Bohannan) was big at the offensive end attacking the basket and hitting some jump shots,” Lady Bobcats Coach Jacob Chapman said. “When she’s doing that, it takes out team up to another level.”
And Tyrone was playing on another level to start the game. After a 6-2 start, Tyrone went on a 10-0 run to go up 16-2 with 7:33 left in the half. Tyrone extended the lead to 17 (22-5) with 4:48 left before halftime. Tyrone led 29-10 at the half, but it could have been bigger if they had not struggled to hit layups at times.
“We started off well,” Chapman said. “Great energy, got after it, defensively. Missed some layups at the beginning, but after we started making those we really pulled away and played pretty well throughout.”
The Lady Bobcats took it up another notch in the third quarter as their defense continued to dominate, and Bohannan scored another 10 points to take a 35-point lead (51-16) into the final period. Tyrone coasted from there, winning by 33.
“Great defense, and it wasn’t just one or two people, it was all five out on the floor, including those who came off the bench and brought the same energy and intensity,” Chapman said. “Really pleased with our play tonight.”
In all, 10 Lady Bobcats scored. Beyond Bohannan’s 20, it was Jennifer Sims with 8 and Kyleigh Ramirez with 7.
Tyrone (17-7) advances to the Regional Tournament where they will take on No.3 Kremlin-Hillsdale, Thursday at 6:30 at Waynoka.
