• Daily Leader staff report
An investigation continues in the death of a Sublette man, but preliminary indications point to an unexplained accidental death, according to a press statement released Monday afternoon by Haskell County Sheriff Troy M. Briggs.
Around 2 p.m. Sunday, Haskell County authorities received a call concerning a deceased man lying in the back yard of his home at 203 W. Carson in Sublette.
Sheriff’s officers and the Kansas Highway Patrol responded to the scene and identified the man as 45-year-old Daniel Hughes of that address.
An autopsy was performed Monday morning at Cimarron Pathology in Liberal, but a full report from the pathologist will not be completed until a later time.
“Initial indications were of an accidental death,” was all that was released in the statement.
No other information from the scene where the body was found or cause of death was released for the time being, as the investigation continues by the Haskell County Sheriff’s office and the Kansas Bureau of Investigation, according to Briggs.
