MARVIN R. SCHWERTFEGER
SATANTA – Marvin Ray Schwertfeger, 85, died Friday, Dec. 12, 2008, in Peoria, Ariz.
He was born Oct. 18, 1923, to August John and Ruth Cordelia McPheeters Schwertfeger.
He married Carolyn Jane Winsted July 26, 2949, in Garden City. She survives.
He attended schools in Satanta and Dodge City and graduated from Dodge City High School in 1942. He attended Dodge City Junior College for one year. He also attended Fort Hays
State University, where he was a member of the Sigma Tau Gamma fraternity.
He enlisted in the Army. He was a World War II veteran, serving in Iwo Jima. He farmed and ranched and also worked at Panhandle Eastern Pipeline Company for 18 years.
He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Satanta and was an associate member of Lakeview United Methodist Church in Sun City, Ariz.
He served on the Satanta Cooperative Board from 1977 to 1987 and was a member of the American Legion post in Satanta.
He enjoyed golfing, hunting, traveling and spending time with his family.
Other survivors include one son, Alan Schwertfeger (Landon), Phoenix; two daughters, Elaine Nielson (Gregg), Holton, and Deedee McGugin (Terry), Merritt Island, Fla.; one brother,
Kenneth Schwertfeger, Smith Center; five grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
o A memorial service will be in the spring of 2009, with the date to be determined, at Satanta United Methodist Church.
In lieu of flowers, Memorials are suggested to the United Methodist Church of Satanta.
