• Daily Leader staff report
A roll-over in Grant County Sunday morning has claimed the life of an 8-year-old Liberal girl.
Guillermina Goitia, 32, of Liberal, was driving a 2000 Nissan Pathfinder a little after 7 a.m. northbound on K190 about a mile east of Ryus, according to the Kansas Highway Patrol, when she failed to steer through a curve in the roadway at mile post 5.7. Her vehicle went into the ditch and rolled.
Her front seat passenger, 8-year-old Jacqueline Goitia of Liberal, wasn’t wearing a seat belt and was ejected from the vehicle. She died from her injuries, according to the report.
Another passenger in the back seat, a 3-year-old girl from Libral was restrained in a booster seat, but she, too, was injured. Both the driver, who was also wearing a seat belt, and the 3-year-old were transported to Satanta District Hospital for treatment of their injuries.
