Juanita Staats, 87, died Friday, Aug. 20, 2010, at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita.

She was born on March 25, 1923, to Arlington Elmer and Pearl Edna (Hall) Wells in Woodward County, Okla.

She married Merle W. Staats Sept. 7, 1946, in Kansas City, Kan.  He survives.

She was a 1940 graduate of Fargo High School in Woodward County nd then attended Hills Business College in Oklahoma City.

She went to work in Civil Service for the U. S. government as a stenographer and secretary. She and her husband owned Staats Jewelry in Liberal from 1955-1993.

She was a member of First United Methodist Church, the Golden Band Sunday school class and Circle 6 of the UMW.

She was a former member of the Jaycee Janes, Book Club No. 2, Beta Sigma Phi and the Liberal Country Club.

Other survivors include two sons, Rodney Staats, M.D., Wichita, and Robert Brent Staats and wife, Ronda, Liberal; two daughters, Sharon Staats Nolde and husband, Ted, Topeka, and Connie Staats Moore and husband, John, Guymon, Okla.; seven grandchildren, Derek Moore, Jeffery Nolde, Lacey Moore Khan, Haley Staats, Bradley Nolde, John W. “Trey” Moore III and Taylor Staats; and three great-grandchildren, Chase, Kyle and Eva Eloise.

She was preceded in death by two brothers, Clyde and Harold Wells, and two sisters, Olene Wells Sober and Leona Mae Wells.

o Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at First United Methodist Church in Liberal with the Rev. David Randall presiding.

Burial will follow at Liberal Cemetery.

Friends may call until 8 p.m. today with the family present to receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. at Kitch-Brenneman Funeral Home.

Memorials are suggested to First United Methodist Church or Children of Zimbabwe Fund in care of Kitch-Brenneman Funeral Home, 1212 W. Second, Liberal, KS  67901.
