A one-vehicle crash very early today in Meade County ends up killing one woman and sending six others to the hospital, two in serious enough condition to be transported to Wesley Medical Center in Wichita.
According to a report from the Kansas Highway Patrol, 25-year-old Eligio G. Juarez of Riverside, Calif., was driving a 2000 Chevrolet utility vehicle eastbound on U.S. Highway 54 7.4 miles east of Meade when he fell asleep at 12:30 a.m. The report noted the vehicle “drifted into oncoming traffic and eventually off the roadway impacting the north side bridge guardrail causing the vehicle to rotate and roll over multiple times.”
The vehicle then came to rest at the bottom of a ravine facing the southwest.
