MEADE – Duane E. Campbell, 78, died Wednesday, June 2, 2010, at Meade District Hospital.

He was born April 9, 1932, to David McLean and Audrey (Smith) Campbell.

He married Beverly Koegeboehn June 10, 1956, at St. John Lutheran Church in Lincolnville. She survives.

He attended school in rural Morris County and Council Grove, graduating from Emporia High School in 1950.

Upon his graduation, he joined the United States Army, serving during the Korean conflict. He worked for the United States Natural Resources Conservation Services as a soil conservation technician, retiring on April 1, 1994. After his retirement, he worked for the Meade County Recycling Center and Graceland Cemetery District for many years.

He was a member of St. John Lutheran Church, serving on the church council and on the practical services committee; AAL, serving as a past president of the congregational branch; Lutheran Laymans League, serving as a congregational representative; and the American Legion Post 92, Meade.

He enjoyed gardening, attending coffee breaks, working puzzles, playing cards and spending time with family and friends.

He is also survived by one son,                                                  David Campbell, Olathe; two daughters, Linda Campbell, Red Oak, Texas, and Lisa Hogan and husband, Tom, Cimarron; one brother, Robert Campbell, Elgin, Neb.; two sisters, Margie Campbell, Lincoln, Calif., and Dorothy Holm, Junction City; and two granddaughters, Abbygail and Gretchen Hogan, Cimarron.

He was preceded in death by his parents and an infant brother.

o Funeral services will be at 9:30 a.m. Monday at St. John Lutheran Church, Meade, with the Rev. Lynn E. Spencer presiding.

Burial will follow at 11:30 a.m. at the Cimarron Cemetery.

Friends may call from noon to 7 p.m. today at Fidler-Orme-Bachman Mortuary, Meade.

The family would welcome memorials to St. John Lutheran Church, Lutheran Hour, or Meade District Hospital in care of the funeral home.
