In Loving Memory



James L. “Jim” Jones, age 69, died Friday, December 5, 2008, at his residence in Liberal, KS. He was born July 28, 1939, at Picher, OK , the son of James E. and Magdalene (Heltzel) Jones. He served in the U.S. Army from 1962 – 1963. He has been a resident of Liberal since 1967 and was owner and operator of Zero Heat and Air from 1971 to present. He was known to many as “Mr. Zero.”  He had also worked with Kitch-Brenneman Funeral Home for the past eight years. He was a member of Southern Baptist Churches for 40 years, serving as deacon for many years. He was a member of the Kansas-Nebraska Convention of Southern Baptist Disaster Team, serving at many different disasters around the country.  He was a past member of the Liberal Police Reserves. He enjoyed fishing, camping, boating and loved to be with his grandchildren.

On Aug. 13, 1961, he married Janet Smades at Leoti , KS. She survives.

Other survivors include 1 son, Jack Alan Jones and wife, Kris, Wichita, KS; 1 daughter, Jana Lyn Johnson and husband, Mark, Garden City, KS; 1 daughter-in-law, Lora Ann Jones, Liberal, KS; 1 sister,  Julia (Beth) Drake, Diamond, MO; and 4 grandchildren, Justin Lee Johnson, Jay Alan Johnson, Emily Leanne Jones and Maxwell James Jones. He was excited about another grandchild due to arrive in April.

Preceded in death by his parents, son – Rev. J. L. Jones and granddaughter – Janessa Ann Jones and Grandson-Jayden Lee Jones.

o Funeral service will be held 10:30 a.m. Monday at First Southern Baptist Church with Dr. Jack Jacob presiding.  Burial will be held at Restlawn Cemetery.

Visitation time will be 1 to 5 p.m. today at Kitch-Brenneman Funeral Home.

At Jim’s request, the family asks memorial contributions be made to KNCSB Disaster Relief Fund in care of Kitch-Brenneman Funeral Home, 1212 W. 2nd, Liberal, KS 67901.
