An altercation in south Liberal ended with shots fired at bystanders, but no injuries.
Witnesses said that a pickup truck pulled up to a house near the corner of Spruce and Pine streets at about 7:45 p.m. Monday. Three men exited the truck and approached the house. An argument ensued between the men from the truck and men in the house, and one of the three men threw a projectile at the house.
Two men exited the home to approach the three men from the truck, and one of the men from the home had what witnesses described as a sawed-off shotgun. The three men jumped in the pick-up and fled the scene.
Witnesses walking down the street that saw the exchange were approached by the men in the truck a block north, and a shot rang out that sent the witnesses, that included children, running down an alley for protection.
The truck circled the block and eventually left the scene.
Officers investigated the scene and blocked off Curtis Street where a spent shotgun shell was found in the middle of the street.
Liberal Police Capt. Pat McClurg confirmed this morning that shots were fired and an investigation is still underway. He also noted no arressts have been made as of 10:40 this morning.
