Two National Beef employees enact a scene where a chemical leak occurs and one of them “collapses” last Friday morning at the Liberal Inn during hazmat training. The training was part of a 40-hour annual course, a requirement for the employees working in refrigeration and maintenance. Greg and Nancy Peters, Hazmat Instructors, gave instructions as the workers followed procedures taught to them during the week long course. “They’re taught to be able to recognize and identify the chemicals that they will normally work with, and be able to stop the leaks. They’re also being trained on the different types of suits and the protective equipment and what they should use for certain types of situations. They have to actually research what they’re doing, and there are different levels of protection they can use to perform their job,”Greg said. L&T photos/Victoria Calderon
