Ross Simmons, 98, died Sunday, June 29, 2014, at the Elk City Nursing Home, Elk City, Okla.
He was born May 5, 1916, to Jesse Franklin and Maude Hallie (Milburn) Simmons on his mother’s homestead in Morton County.
He married Naomi Lowry in 1938 in Syracuse. She died Jan. 16, 2000.
He considered his work a hobby and spent the majority of his life as the owner/operator of his own farming and ranching operation until his retirement in 1994.
Survivors include daughter, Connie Swinney, Elk City; sister, Rachel Reece, Lamar, Colo.; four grandchildren, Kent Swinney, Gentry, Ark., Brian Swinney, Wylie, Texas, Karlese Butler, Elk City, and Craig Swinney, Hugoton; 11 great-granchildren: Troy, Dwayne, Celsey and Brandon Swinney, Gentry, Ark., Blake and Bailey Swinney, Wylie, Texas, and Tristen and Kyler Butler, Elk City, and Colton, Preston and Tenley Swinney, Hugoton; and seven great-great-grandchildren.
He was also preceded in death by his parents; brother, Dale Simmons; and three sisters, Marjorie Herrin, Geneva Bentley and Lorena Pifer.
• Memorial services will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday at the First Church of God in Hugoton.
