The Bee Jays lost to the last place team in the Jayhawk League on Thursday at home, 11-4, and defeated the first place team on the road Friday, 3-2.

Seth Stevens gave the Bee Jays a 2-0 lead in the first inning with a home run after Brady Cox avoided the third out of the inning by reaching on a single that took a bad hop.

JB Olson only gave up one run in the fourth, and when he came off the mound after seven innings, the Bee Jays had a 2-1 lead.

Alec Isaac provided an insurance run in the ninth with an RBI single.

The run would be needed.

Wellington scored a run in the bottom of the ninth and had the tying run at third and the winning run at second.

But the bullpen came through for Olson when Blake Rogers struck out two Heat batters to end the game and preserve the 3-2 win.

Tyler Wiedenfeld contributed by pitching a scoreless eighth for the Bee Jays.

The Heat loss snapped a 16-game winning streak to start the season.

Liberal is two games behind Hays for third place in the Jayhawk League and had two games remaining in the three-game series with Wellington.

The two played Saturday and again at 7 p.m. Sunday.
