Do you value your rights under the Constitution?
Let’s look at the newest target of the nation’s lefties: The First Amendment.
“Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.”
Those are the exact words.
Now let’s look at what a legal panel in Colorado thinks of freedom of religion and the free expression thereof.
“On May 30, the Colorado Civil Rights Commission upheld a December 2013 ruling which found that Masterpiece Cakeshop owner Jack Phillips had discriminated against Dave Mullins and Charlie Craig when he denied their request for a wedding cake in 2012,” reported Curtis M. Wong for the Huffington Post on Tuesday. “Phillips, a devout Christian, had argued that the decision violated his First Amendment rights to free speech and free exercise of his religion.”
That panel has decided it and only it will decide what the First Amendment “really” means.
What unmitigated gall.
I pray this man finds the cash and the will to fight this all the way to the U.S. Supreme Court. He has already announced his bakery has quit making cakes altogether from now on.
On a bright note: His bakery is overrun with support from friends, fans and citizens ordering everything else he makes. That’s what standing for your religious beliefs and the Constitution gets you. He’s rolling in the dough because of these rulings since 2012.
Wong also writes: “The man said that he would be happy to make cakes for a (gay) person’s birthday party. But he believes making a wedding cake would be equivalent to participating in the ceremony.
“‘My issue is that I don't want to be forced to participate in a same-sex wedding,’ Phillips said.”
Not only did the commission strip Phillips of his Constitutional right, they are forcing him to attend “sensitivity classes,” and he has to “ submit quarterly reports about who he refuses to serve. He’ll also have to give his employees anti-discrimination training.”
If you don’t know what “tyranny of government” is, study this case thoroughly.
Here’s what the ACLU posted on the day of the panel’s ruling.
“Religious freedom is undoubtedly an important American value, but so is the right to be treated equally under the law free from discrimination,” said Amanda C. Goad, staff attorney with the ACLU Lesbian Gay Bisexual and Transgender Project. “Everyone is free to believe what they want, but businesses like Masterpiece Cakeshop cannot treat some customers differently than others based on who they are as people.”
Let’s look at that closer.
“Religious freedom is undoubtedly an important American value?”
That is the remark of an imbecile who knows and cares nothing about the Constitution.
“Religous freedom” is not a “value.” It’s a right of the citizens of this country under the First Amendment.
“Everyone is free to believe what they want…”
That’s unless it doesn’t fit the left’s interpretation of the First Amendment.
On a personal note: I’ll never step foot in that state the rest of my life, and I advise others with true convictions to do the same.
Not to be outdone by some leftwing, dope-smoking panel in Colorado, Senate Majority Harry Reid is also mounting an all-out frontal assault on the First Amendment.
Seems Harry (and his puppeteer Obama) doesn’t like the Supreme Court’s rulings that donations to political parties and candidates are “free speech,” protected under the First Amendment.
So, what is Harry doing, he has proposed a new First Amendment to our beloved Constitution and is pushing for a floor vote in the U.S. Senate.
Here’s what Harry said Tuesday: “We sit here today with a simple choice,” Reid told the Senate Judiciary Committee. “We can keep the status quo and argue all day and all night — forever — about whose billionaires are right and whose billionaires are wrong. Or, we can work together to change the system, to get this shady money out of our democracy and restore the basic principle of one American, one vote.”
“Change the system.” Those are Harry’s words.
Here’s what Sen. Ted Cruz said concerning Harry’s remarks Tuesday.
“If this amendment passes, Congress can say, you the citizens are no longer citizens, you’re subjects. Because we’ve repealed the First Amendment and taken away your ability to speak,” Cruz said. He added: “I would note this amendment, if adopted, would give Congress the power to ban books and to ban movies.”
If you don’t believe me, believe Harry’s words – the leftists that control the Democratic Party are doing everything they can to rewrite amendments of our 224-year-old Constitution.
For all those out there that don’t believe that, you better wake up.
