L&T staff report

Less than 12 hours after Shannon Francis announced his intentions to run for the 125th District House seat, Seward County Commissioner Jim Rice announced that he, too, would seek the seat.

Both are Republicans and are no stranger to politics.

Francis served as Seward County Commissioner District 5 for eight years before losing to Rice by four votes in 2008.

This time, the race will not be limited to one district. The entire House District, which includes almost all of Seward County, will decide who will represent the 125th District in Topeka.

Neither has officially filed, but both have declared for the seat. Registration deadline is June 2.
