After a rough outing in the second round of the Hi-Plains League Tournament against eventual champion Cimarron, the Southwestern Heights Lady Mustangs got what they needed with a 47-33 win over the Syracuse Lady Bulldogs to take home third place.

Jackie Loya led the Lady Mustangs with 19 points, including four threes; Ivon Amparan added 12 points.

Heights took a 10-6 lead in the first quarter, but really took control of the game in a 15-5 second quarter that put them up by 14 at half (25-11).

Syracuse played their best period of the match with a 15-11 advantage in the third to cut the lead back to 10 heading into the fourth.

Heights kept the Lady Bulldogs from a comeback, winning by 14.

Heights (7-6) will host Forgan Tuesday.
