The Lady Bulldogs of Hooker used a strong second half showing to pull away from the Forgan Lady Bulldogs, and get a 62-45 win on the road.

Mariana Cervantes led the way for Hooker, scoring a game-high 20 points.

The two teams exchanged leads throughout most of the first half, and Forgan led 16-13 after the first quarter.

Early in the second, neither team had a clear advantage over the other. Late in the half Hooker had some momentum going, and looked to take control until KaDawn McReynolds hit a buzzer-beating three pointer at the end of the half for Forgan to cut Hooker’s lead to one at 31-30.

Hooker was the stronger team coming out of the half, going on an 11-2 run over the first five-and-a-half minutes of the third quarter to take a 42-32 lead.

Hooker took full advantage of the abundance of fouls called on Forgan, going 7-of-9 from the free throw line in the third quarter to take a 44-34 lead into the final quarter of play.

In the fourth, Forgan’s McReynolds hit a three pointer early to get the Bulldogs within seven, but that was as close as Forgan would get.

Hooker continued to get to the line, and pulled away late to get a 62-45 win.

Forgan only managed to get five free throws in the second half, while Hooker had 17.

Kyra Cathcart had 15 points for Hooker, and Shania Miller chipped in with seven.

McReynolds led Forgan with 17 points, while Alex McBee had seven.

Up next for Hooker is a trip to Texhoma to take on the Red Devils Friday, and Forgan will be in Beaver Friday to take on the Dusters.
