Audie Bartel, left, displays the engraved silver tray that will be presented to the winner of the Liberal leg of the International Pancake Day Race Tuesday. Pancake Day race co-chair Jan Nondorf, right, holds a 1969 Pancake Day program book showing a picture of Paul Collins engraving the 1968 winner’s tray. Olney’s winner receives an identical engraved tray as a gift from Liberal each year. Bartel and his wife, Karla, owners of Collins Diamond Jewelers, have donated the engraved trays for Liberal and Olney winners for more than two decades, and as the picture shows, the tradition of the tray and Collins Diamond Jewelers dates back even longer. Collins Diamond Jewelers also donates the tiara each year for the race winner. Courtesy photo
