The Hooker Bulldogs hung tough with the Fairview Yellowjackets for a half, but fell in the end, 38-21.

I was proud of our effort,” Bulldogs coach Jacob Kreamer said. “ I thought the kids played hard. We had some mistakes that hurt us, but we played a good game.”

Hooker trailed just 14-13 in the first half, and was able to slow down the potent Yellowjacket offensive attack.

“Our guys had prepared hard this week on the field and in the film room, and we felt like we had a pretty good grasp of what they were going to do,” Kreamer said. “Our kids did a good job of executing the plan. We tried to take the short screens away from them, and make them run it or throw deep, hoping we could get pressure on him.”

The gameplan worked early as the Bulldogs forced the Yellowjackets’ quarterback into some errant throws.

Meanwhile the Bulldogs rushing attack was effective in the first half, helping the Bulldogs to sustain drives and score points.

“We had quite a bit of success running the ball early and passed it well later, but had some drives stall out,” Kreamer said.

Fairview’s depth and Hooker’s lack there of took its toll in the second half.

“We had a few blown coverages and I think we got a little winded,” Kreamer said. “I’m extremely proud of the way we played.”

Hooker (1-4, 1-2) will host panhandle rival Beaver (1-5, 0-3)  Thursday.
