The Oneida Indian Nation met with the National Football League owners Tuesday hoping to urge the league to pressure Washington to remove Redskins from their name. The controversy was stirred up when President Obama told the Associated Press last week he would consider changing it if he owned the franchise.
Well it ain’t gonna happen – not right away.
I find it sad that Obama and other liberals think pouring money into problems of minorities will help them survive the future, when in fact, it’s the American Native Indians who are prime examples of the destructive power of socialism in this nation.
They have been given billions of dollars to set up and profit from Indian Corporations, they are still receiving billions in payments for food, housing, utilities, health care, education and transportation.
Yet, of the 2.9 million people, or 0.9 percent of the population, Native Americans are the greatest percent of the poorest, the sickest, the least educated, et cetera, et cetera, et cetera – in the nation.
Lets look at some data from the U.S. Census Bureau, the New York Times, The Associated Press, www.infoplease.com, NBC News, the Justice Department, the Centers For Disease Control and U.S. News and World Report, to name a few.
• Almost 12 percent of the deaths among Native Americans and Alaska Natives are alcohol-related — more than three times the percentage in the general population, a new federal report says.
The report released by the federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, found 11.7 percent of deaths among Native Americans and Alaska Natives between 2001 and 2005 were alcohol-related, compared with 3.3 percent for the U.S. as a whole.
• The country’s 310 Indian reservations have violent crime rates that are more than two and a half times higher than the national average, according to data compiled by the Justice Department. American Indian women are 10 times as likely to be murdered than other Americans.
They are raped or sexually assaulted at a rate four times the national average, with more than one in three having either been raped or experienced an attempted rape.
• While overall high school graduation rates were up nationwide, almost half of Native American students in the class of 2010 failed to graduate.
Roughly 51 percent of Native American students in the class of 2010 earned a high school diploma. That's down from 54 percent in 2008, when graduation rates for the group reached its peak.
• Two race groups exceeded the national poverty rate of 14.3 percent by more than 10 percentage points: American Indian and Alaska Natives at 27 percent and black or African-American at 25.8 percent.
• The number of American Indians and Alaska Natives living below the federal poverty line was the greatest in Rapid City, South Dakota, home to the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation, at 50.9 percent.
On Pine Ridge, unemployment is 80 percent, and per capita income fluctuates between $4,000 and $6,000. Out of the estimated 400 to 500 homes on reservation, 150 houses and trailers are without running water or electricity.
• “A youth-suicide epidemic is sweeping Indian country, with Native American teens and young adults killing themselves at more than triple the rate of other young Americans, according to federal government figures.” (NBC News)
“So dire is the alarm that of 23 grants the U.S. federal government awarded nationally to prevent youth suicides in September, 10 went to Native American tribes or organizations, with most of them receiving nearly $500,000 per year for three years.” (NBC News).
Big government’s solution? Just pour more money on it.
Do these statistics light the path for blacks and other ethnic groups the socialists are “trying to help” by re-distributing wealth and making them live from the public trough?
They sure do for Star Parker, Dr. Ben Carson, Walter Williams and more and more blacks who are fighting an uphill battle showing how this socialist agenda will do them and their people nothing but harm – and it’s perpetuating that destruction right now.
The U.S. government, in all it’s useless efficiency, set up corporations for American Indians, and along with that “money” came “rules and regulations,” which has made the lives of these people even more horrific.
In a Monday AP article it was pointed out “American Indian tribes have been caught misappropriating tens of millions of taxpayer dollars, according to internal tribal audits and other documents. But federal authorities do little about it — due to a lack of oversight, resources or political will.
“Thousands of pages of audits and dozens of reports by federal investigators, obtained by the AP under the Freedom of Information Act, show evidence of embezzlement, paychecks for do-nothing jobs and employees who over-billed hours and expenses. The audits, conducted by private firms, are required of tribes that spend more than $500,000 in federal funds annually.
“When the Northern Arapaho Tribe audit report for 2010 was finally filed earlier this year, the auditors gave the tribe the worst possible rating. They said the tribal government was such a mess that they couldn’t even render an opinion.
“Despite the disarray, federal funding kept increasing. The tribe spent $14.8 million in 2010 — up from $9.3 million in 2007.”
This is the sad plight of our American Native Indian brothers – killing them softly with big government.
Black Americans need to sit back and carefully study the history of government intervention in the culture of Native Indians and ask themselves, “Is this where we’re headed?”
What has made this nation a beacon of light in the world is “freedom,” – freedom of capitalism, supply and demand, work and rewards – not big government and kow-towing to demands of leftists and their national bosses.
Apparently, the Oneida leaders wanting Redskins removed from the Washington team’s name are quite content seeing their people humiliated, starved and raped by the politically-correct leftists in this nation. They should be trying to solve the big problems, not crying alligator tears over the name Redskins.
I say, Go Redskins, break the yoke of big government from your necks and be free – and prosper.
Be a proud Redskin.
