HUGOTON – Helen Esther Johns 92, died Saturday, Oct. 5, 2013, at Stanton County Hospital, Johnson City.
She was born April 10, 1921, to John Casler and Ella Dunn Hand in Partridge.
She married Private Martin Russell Johns Sept. 16, 1945, at the Partridge Methodist Church in Johnson City. He died Jan. 30, 2010.
She was a 1938 graduate of Partridge Rural High School and a 1942 graduate of Kansas State Teachers College, now known as Emporia State University, where she received a bachelor degree in education.
She taught English, Latin, and American history for three years at Strong City High School, Strong City. She was a homemaker and helped her husband operate the family farm in Morton County.
She was a member of the Richfield United Methodist Church where she was pianist for many years, Sunday school teacher, church treasurer for 38 years.
She was a member of the United Methodist Women, member of the Richfield Study and Social Club since 1946.
She was ainterested in genealogy with more than 10 books of genealogy sheets for all members of the families.
Other survivors include four sons, Dennis Martin Johns, Wichita, Daryl Tremain Johns and wife, Carol, Daphne, Ala., Norman Dallas Johns and wife, Geralynn, rural Johnson City, and Brian Lane Johns, Wichita; six grandchildren, Justin Johns, Jennifer Henriksen and husband, Ryan, Jordan Johns and wife, Laura, Joshua Johns, Jamieson Johns, Jessica Johns; four great-grandchildren, Alexia Adams, Colton Johns, Rebekah Henriksen and Casey Johns; a friend, Michael S. Ownings, Wichita; and other relatives and friends.
She was also preceded in death by parents, husband, and one still born son, Barry Eugene Johns.
• Funeral service were at 10:30 a.m. today at Richfield United Methodist Church with the Rev. Sandy Ferguson presiding, with burial at the Richfield Cemetery.
Memorials are suggested the Martin Russell Johns Memorial Fund and proceeds will be for Rolla Schools Music Department and may be mailed to Paul’s Funeral Home, P.O. Box 236, Hugoton, KS 67951.
