KISMET — Southwestern Heights improved to 2-2 on the season following a 20-0 win over the Stanton County Trojans Friday night at Mustang Field.

The rain came down in the first half, and both teams struggled to hold on to the football early. Turnovers were abundant in the first quarter because of the conditions.

The Mustangs were able to get things going in the second quarter though, and Brandon Kisner found his way to the endzone on a five-yard scamper, to put Heights up 6-0.

The score would stay the same heading into halftime, and by the time the second half started the rain had stopped. The Mustangs took advantage in the second half.

In the third quarter, Kisner found Jorge Dela Torre on a 24-yard touchdown pass to give Heights a 12-0 lead.

Kisner was 2-of-9 passing for 43 yards and a touchdown, with Dela Torre being the target on both of the completions.

In the fourth quarter, Efrain Chavez ran the ball in from nine yards out for a 18-0 Mustang lead. Kisner would hit a pass to Dela Torre on the two point lead to make the final score of 20-0.

Chavez led Heights with 69 yards rushing on 24 carries and a touchdown. Saul Sanchez added 10 carries for 55 yards, and Dela Torre had 33 yards on three carries.

On the defensive side of the ball, sophomore Ivan Rascon had a monster game, with a season-high 21 tackles and recovered a fumble. Sanchez chipped in with 19 tackles, while Dela Torre had one sack, and caused a fumble for the Mustangs.

Heights had 12 first down in the game, compared to 10 for the Trojans.

Penalties were a killer for Stanton County. The Trojans racked up nine penalties for a total of 60 yards, while the Heights had only one penalty for five yards.

Up next for the Mustangs is a road game in Syracuse on Friday as they look to pick up their first road win of the year.
