When considering a gift for that special someone for Valentine’s Day this year, why not surprise him or her with a balloon bouquet – and help out Liberal’s Rec Center as well?

Activities Director Ronna Stump said for approximately the past 10 years, Rec Center staff and children who enjoy the services the center provides have been constructing and delivering balloon bouquets for local sweethearts.

For a small price, those interested can purchase a balloon bouquet to be delivered on Friday, Feb. 12, and Saturday, Feb. 13, Stump said.

“For the price of $5, you get a bag of candy, one balloon, we do a little card and deliver it,” Stump said. “If you don’t want it delivered, we are asking $4. We are asking $1 for delivery. You can add balloons for $1 more per each balloon. You can put a stuffed animal on there for $2.”

Stump asks that all interested in purchasing a bouquet personally come down to the Rec Center at 1109 W. 7th to place their order.

“No phone orders,” she said. “We need for them to pay on the spot.”

Stump added the kids who enjoy the Rec Center will be helping put the bouquets together as well as delivering them. All proceeds, she said, will serve as a fundraiser for the center.

“This is kind of a fundraiser for the Rec Center so we can buy games and kind of update some things around here,” she said. “That is really what it is for.”

Many may be surprised to know how many local children actually spend time at the Rec Center, Stump said. She added that all children are always welcome to join in the fun.

“We usually get 30 to 35 kids each day,” she said. “This year, it is a little different, we have some of the older West Middle School kids coming over – more than the little ones. But, they are all welcome.”
