Liberal’s Yard of the Week PDF Print E-mail

510 Lilac is the next yard of the week. Starla Hill has lived at the residence since 2006 and has done quite a few things to improve the landscape. There were no trees, so Starla planted pines which have grown into beautiful specimens. There are two groups of three in the front and two trees in the back. Also in the back is a maple and a redbud. The large redbud provides wonderful shade in the dog run. Two large concrete planters on top of brick pillars draw visitors toward the front door. These are planted with red geraniums and white bacopa. A short brick wall divides the front entrance from the yard. Inside this area, Starla has experimented with haybale plantings. Using the bales as planters, a tomato and a cucumber have grown into large producing plants. Other large pots are planted with more red geraniums and purple scaevola – a very striking combination. A hedge of bayberry and euonymous hugs the brick wall and the front of the house. A small bed next to the street contains a miscanthus, spirea and boxwood.  The back yard, which is surrounded by a wrought iron fence, has a nice covered patio. Adding to the pretty landscape are large planters filled with lantana, geraniums, and hibiscus. The view from the patio looks out onto the golf course which almost seems to extend the landscape. Drive by this home to see another beautiful yard in Liberal. Courtesy photo
