By the time Frank Phillips started to play, the Lady Saints already had a double digit lead.

The Lady Plainsmen made a run at the Lady Saints, but Seward got the necessary plays in the first half to squash the comeback attempt.

The two teams played even in the second half, and Seward earned the

78-57 win to improve to 5-1 on the season.

Raegan Brodie had her first start as a Lady Saint and scored 12 points. Vanessa Simmons led the Lady Saints with 14 points and 10 rebounds.

Nadia Rosario collected 10 rebounds for the Lady Saints.

Seward improved on its free throw shooting against Frank Phillips.

The Lady Saints shot 68 percent. Seward struggled in the first five games of the season, shooting about 50 percent.

“Any time we shoot better than 50 percent right now, I’m going to be happy,” Seward coach Toby Wynn said.

The Lady Saints defense was deadly, forcing 31 Frank Phillips turnovers, many of which resulted in transition baskets.

But Wynn was not pleased with his defense once the Lady Plainsmen found a way to throw over the full court press.

“I didn’t feel we played our best,” Wynn said. “Defensively we didn’t play very good. We have to win with defense.”

Seward only connected on 40 percent of its shots, and Wynn expected his offense to be behind the defense.

“We’re still working on offense,” he said. “ We need to make plays and have the right player make the right play.”

Ten Lady Saints scored in the 21-point win.

The No. 17 Lady Saints (5-1) will have two weeks to practice before returning to competition Nov. 28 in the Garden City Thanksgiving Classic.
