Former Liberal Mayor Dale Reed has once again been arrested for allegedly driving under the influence. It’s his second DUI arrest in less than five months.
Reed, 61, was arrested March 22 on three alleged charges, according to records of the Seward County Sheriff’s office.
A spokesman for City of Liberal Municipal Court confirmed he faces three counts: Improper driving on roads laned for traffic, DUI No. 2 and illegal transportation of alcohol in a motor vehicle.
The spokesman also said no specific date for a further court appearance has been set.
Reed was arrested four-and-a-half months ago on Nov. 28, 2012, on similar charges – suspicion of driving under the influence, transporting an open container, as well as other driving violations.
Reed has not only served on the city commission and as mayor but has been associated with Seward County Community College/Area Technical School for 30 years.
A year ago, the SCCC/ATS Board of Trustees met Monday evening, April 2, 2012, and accepted an early retirement request from Reed, dean of outreach.
The board noted at that meeting, “Dale has a long history with SCCC/ATS, as he was a member of the first graduating class, played basketball for the Saints, returned as a coach and later served as business and industry coordinator and associate dean of educational services.”
