I want to thank the Liberal Parks and Recreation for hosting this event, but I'm extremely disappointed of what I witnessed.
I have never seen an unorganized event which made a lot of parents and myself shocked at what had taken place. My daughter is 3 1/2 years old, and we were on the field for preschool line. When the race started to collect Easter eggs, I have never witnessed how barbarian the parents were in the field.
This was a children’s event “not” parents.
I witnessed these parents push little kids down to help their own children collect eggs. It was watching a mob scene happen in slow motion. There was child who couldn’t be more than 5, and she had fallen down and with all the running and pushing these parents were doing, a man that had to be over 6-feet tall stepped on her back and kept picking up Easter eggs.
How cruel to have witnessed this. To see the tears fall from this little girls eyes was heartbreaking. In the mix of the stampede of parents, I lost focus of where my own child was. Thankfully, a friend located her, and of course, my daughter and 20-plus kids I witnessed did not have a chance to even get an egg because of the way these parents pushed and prodded to get their own child eggs to fill their basket.
Something needs to be done about this, and hopefully, more rules should be issued to parents when Easter rolls around next year.
No parent should be out there “period” to help their children. These kids are capable of finding eggs and distributing them in their own basket. In which, I'm not too sure if I will participate next year due to what happened.
I also want to let you know that the tickets that were handed out to the parents for the giveaways was a joke. I had watched these teens who were handing out these tickets did not keep track of who they gave them to.
Some parents had at least seven tickets in their hand because why be honest when the teens couldn't remember if they had handed you one or not.
I left after the bike give away. Why stay and see if your number is called when my one ticket couldn’t compete when others had seven or more?
I feel sorry for these preschool kids on what they had to endure at the Easter egg hunt. Not sure on the other age groups that were out there if they had the same problem as the younger age group but if so, speak out parents and share your concerns with the Parks and Rec Department.
“Shame” on you parents who bombarded these kids’ enjoyment over some candy and eggs for your own children.
