The Beaver Lady Dusters stayed within striking distance the whole game, took the lead in the fourth, and then held on for a 59-55 win over the Laverne Lady Tigers.

"I thought we were outplayed in a lot of aspects of the game," Lady Dusters coach Casey Jones said. "But we held on at the end. It was nice to finally win a close one after so many close losses."

Early in the game, it looked like Beaver might be in trouble when Jacinda Balderrama, the Lady Dusters leading scorer was hit with two fouls in the first four minutes of the game.

Beaver trailed 15-12 at the end of one quarter of play. The Lady Dusters had a 12-10 scoring advantage in the second, with Shelby Brown scoring 7 of her game-high 18 in the quarter. Brown finished the game 8 of 19 from the field, including a pair of threes.

"Shelby Brown did a nice job, taking over the scoring role while Jacinda was out," Jones said.

Laverne continued to play steady and added two more to their lead heading into the fourth (41-36).

But Balderrama resumed her scoring role for the Lady Dusters in the second half with 14 points, and Beaver dominated the fourth quarter, 21-14 to win.

"Our press caused just enough problems to help us get the win," Jones said.

Beaver will play at Southwestern Heights Tuesday.
