Maxine Ethel Stillman, 95, died Friday, Jan. 18, 2013.
She was born Aug. 3, 1917, to Alva Chance and Mary Ethel Craig Chance on her grandparents farm in Hugoton.
She married Jackson K. Lightfoot May 31, 1936, in Okmulgee, Okla. He preceded her in death.
She then married Forrest Wayne Stillman in 1967. He preceded her in death.
She graduated from Pratt High School in 1935.
She pursued a singing career performing all over Kansas and parts of Oklahoma and Texas. After graduation, she joined the Stanley Lang Band and toured the Southwest. She auditioned with the Tex Benike Band. In 1957, she went to work as a junior executive for the fashion firm Joseph Magnin. She later left to work for herself selling real estate in the Santa Clara Valley.
She was a member of the United Methodist Church and worked in the Kitchen and Logos.
She was a founding member and past president of the Key to the Hills Women’s Civic Club.
She is survived by her daughter, Jan K. Johnson and husband, Luke; her grandson, Luke Reid and wife, Lindsey; her granddaughter, Leslie Johnson; and two great-grandsons.
She was also preceded in death by her son, Robert Alan Lightfoot, and brother, Vernon Devon Chance,
o A graveside service will be in Liberal, where she will be buried next to her parents.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to Hill Country Animal Defense League or Brighter Days Horse Refuge.
