Dorothea Mae (Ross) Eikenberry, 86, died Friday, Jan. 18, 2013.
She was born Nov. 28, 1926, to Charles H. and Lillian B. (Morgan) Ross in Independence.
She married Pfc. John E. Eikenberry Aug. 18, 1945. He preceded her in death.
She worked with John in his trucking business for many years. She worked with developmentally challenged children at a school in Liberal and later at KNI in Topeka.
She taught Sunday school and vacation Bible school. She was most recently a member of Highland Park United Methodist Church.
She served on the board of ICare and worked in the food pantry.
She is survived by her sons E. Dean (Patty) Eikenberry, St. Joseph, Mo., and Thomas “Tom” W. Eikenberry, Liberal; her daughters, Patsy L. Marincic (Mike) of North Royalton, Ohio, E. Lynne Boone (Tom) of Albuquerque, N.M., and Sharon K. Eikenberry-Deary (Lawrence), Jacksonville, Fla.; 10 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by her parents, her brothers and sisters and a great-grand-daughter.
o A memorial service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Highland Park United Methodist Church, where the family will greet friends from 9 a.m. until service time.
Private family burial will take place at Mount Auburn Cemetery.
