HUGOTON – Raymond H. Moore, 98, died Monday, Dec. 24, 2012, at Bob Wilson Memorial Hospital in Ulysses.

He was born Nov. 29, 1914, TO Ivan O. and Opal Grace (Simmonds) Moore in Reno County.

He married Ruth Mable Swonger Feb. 23, 1942, at the Baptist church in Pratt. She survives.

He graduated from Hugoton High School.

While in high school, he worked for Bloodhart Drug and worked for Santa Fe Depot after high school.  He served in the United States Army during World War II in the Pacific as a communications chief.  He retired after 38 years from the Gamble’s Store in Hugoton.

He served two terms as the mayor of Hugoton in the 1950s and 1960s.  He was also a member of the Masonic Lodge for 75 years, Rotary Club, Hugoton Chamber of Commerce, and United Methodist Church where he was very active and served on the building committee.

He enjoyed gardening, and was very family oriented; making sure his grandkid’s bikes were always in running condition.

Other survivors include one son, Dennis  Moore and wife, Pamela, Hugoton; two daughters, Celain Baker and husband, Gary, Hugoton, and Shila Moore of Salt Lake City six grandchildren, Arica, Nate, Cody, Cail, Cam and Case; and seven great-great-grandchildren.

He preceded in death by his grandson, Sean Ivan Moore; and two sisters, Vera Fidler  and Velva Schwartz.

o Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the United Methodist Church in Hugoton with Pastor Harry Cross presiding.

Burial will follow at the Hugoton Cemetery in Hugoton with military rites conducted by the Fort Riley Honor Guard.

Friends may call from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m at Garnand Funeral Home in Hugoton.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the United Methodist Church in care of Garnand Funeral Home, 423 S. Main, Hugoton, KS  67951.
